Frequently Asked Questions

I only provide driving instruction to prepare students for their South Australian Vehicle On Road Test (VORT). At this current time I do not offer CBT&A (logbook) instruction.

I have partnered with the LearnerPass platform for my bookings. Their platform provides secure card payment processing. Payment for VORTS is external to LearnerPass and will be arranged with the student.

In South Australia you can obtain your driving licence by two methods; VORT (Vehicle On Road Test) and CBT&A (Competency Based Training and Assessment commonly known as Logbook).

VORT
This method typically the cheaper of the methods as you can achieve the required competency level to pass the driving examination with less lessons. Your driving instructor will teach you the same skills and competencies as taught in logbook so you are a safe and competent driver.

The VORT examination involves a final drive along a pre-determined Government route, where you will be required to demonstrate competent driving including five slow-speed manoeuvres:

1. Moving off from a kerb or hill
2. U-Turn
3. Three-point turn
4. 90 degree angle park
5. Reverse parallel park

Things to note with VORT, students cannot be tested by an instructor they have had lessons with. This is something we arrange for all our students. Importantly, any road law breach while undertaking a VORT examination will result in an immediate fail of the test and require a reassessment, permitted only after 14 days.

CBT&A
This method requires students to learn and demonstration 30 competencies with a final examination drive. Due to the number of competencies, more driving instruction lessons are required. At this time I do not offer CBT&A.

Every student is unique with different levels of experience and skills. Once I have assessed your driving on your first lesson, I can provide you an estimate on the number of lessons that you will likely need before sitting the VORT examination.

When a student can confidently and safely drive with minimal assistance, they are usually ready for a VORT. Practice has a significant impact to student learning and adoption of what is taught in lessons. Regular practice following what students learn typically leads to reduced lessons and less cost for parents.

This is flexible. I can come to your home, school, workplace or other location and lessons can conclude at the same or alternative location. Please speak with me if the location is a long distance away prior to booking.

Absolutely! My vehicle has full comprehensive insurance, and is insured for driver training.

I hold Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance through the Professional Driver Trainers Association of South Australia (PDTA), of which I am a full member.

I am a nationally qualified driving instructor holding a Certificate IV Motor Vehicle Driving Instruction, and approved by the South Australian Government through DIT (Department for Infrastructure and Transport) to provide driving instruction. I have also completed courses in advanced defensive driving techniques.

Professional driving lessons are strongly encouraged.

The VORT examination requires a 90% minimum pass mark. Not understanding the requirements and procedures will lead to a costly failure. Professional instruction will ensure you have the correct knowledge of road law, effective and safe driving skills, and knowledge of the system of car control (sequences and procedures) essential to meeting the standard required for a VORT pass.

Learners must have your learners permit with you for each lesson, as well as your driving companion for recording driving hours.

Licence conversion students must have their international licence with them and/or temporary learners permit if already obtained. This must be in paper form and a digital copy is not sufficient

You must wear appropriate footwear – no thongs, bare feet, clogs (shoes with soles thicker than 3cm) or shoes without heel support.

  • You must comply with all Learner’s Permit conditions.
  • You must be punctual or you may forfeit your test – The VORT cannot be started earlier than 5 minutes before, or later than 15 minutes after the booked time (Note: we ensure you will be on time).
  • You must allow an Authorised Person (a Government employee who has clearly identified himself/herself) to observe, from within the test vehicle if requested. The Authorised Person will ask the Instructor to show your Learner’s Permit (Note: these are rare and cannot be predicted. Audits of examiners is random and without notice).
  • You will not be allowed to carry passengers (or animals) during a VORT, except an authorised examiner and any other authorised persons. Your instructor is not permitted to be in the car during the VORT.
